models outfitted with TRD Sport trim and a new model called the
Adventure. Make no mistake: TRD is big business for Toyota.
Last year about half of Tundras and
had some kind of TRD package, and 140,000 total Toyotas rolled off
lots with the trim. "It helps with the overall image of our trucks and SUVs," Toyota vice president Bill Fay said at the show.

TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development, and the company offers it in a variety of flavors. Take the Tacoma. Sport is largely an appearance pack, while Off-Road adds some capability with crawl mode and an electronically locking rear differential. TRD Pro, the most capable, offers performance Fox Shocks, skid plates, cat-back exhaust, and LED lights.
The TRD Pro represents a roughly $10,000-difference in price, giving buyers a capable vehicle, or at least one that looks the part. "It's understanding what customers want," Fay said. He noted "a fair amount do" take the Pro models off-road.
The Sequoia and Tundra TRD Sport versions similarly are beefed up with Bilstein shocks, front and rear anti-sway bars, and snazzy appearance upgrades like grille inserts and 20-inch alloy wheels. Underscoring their importance, the TRD variants were the headliners as Toyota revealed the 2018 mid-cycle freshenings for the Tundra and Sequoia in Chicago.

At the other end of the spectrum, Toyota is hawking the RAV4 Adventure as a lifestyle variant, and it's the first Toyota to get the new name. It has a higher ride height, standard tow package, and styling cues like fender flares, black bezel headlights, and lower body guards.
Fay said this is a test case for the Adventure badge. "We will take a look at the success of it once we start selling it in the fall," he said.

The striptease for
continues. This time, the Italian brand has released an official image of the Fiat Toro’s rear end. We’ve previously seen the Toro’s bold front end and spyshots of the truck’s rear. It is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2016.
The Toro is a double-cab pick-up truck measuring 4,915 mm long (shorter than ) with a one-tonne payload, accessible via a unique barn-style tailgate that splits open in the middle, . There’s enough space for five occupants “with the comfort of a luxury car,” Fiat claims.
The Toro is based on the underpinnings of FCA family member , which is also made in Brazil. The compact Jeep’s wheelbase has been extended for the Toro, which means that unlike regular ladder frame trucks like the ,
and , this is a truck with unitary construction and fully independent suspension.
Brazilians can choose from a 1.8 litre E.torQ flex fuel (ethanol-petrol) engine with 138 hp or a 2.0 litre Multijet turbodiesel with 170 hp. The former is paired to a six-speed automatic and is FWD only, while the diesel engine gets either a six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic gearbox – the latter only in conjunction with 4WD. Note the “AT9” and &#” badging on the range-topper above.
The Fiat Toro is expected to feature the latest iteration of the uConnect infotainment system with a five-inch touchscreen display screen, GPS navigation, a reverse camera and Bluetooth connectivity. Higher spec variants should also get an electric sunroof, part leather, automatic xenons, an upgraded sound system as well as rain-sensing wipers.
Expected equipment on the flagship model are 18-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, off-road suspension, Hill Descent Control, LED DRLs and chrome trimmings.

It doesn't take much to confuse AI image classifiers: a group from Japan's Kyushu University reckon you can fool them by changing the value of a single pixel in an image.
Researchers Jiawei Su, Danilo Vasconcellos Vargas and Sakurai Kouichi were working with two objectives: first, to predictably trick a Deep Neural Network (DNN), and second, to automate their attack as far as possible.
In other words, what does it take to get the AI to look at an image of an automobile, and classify it as a dog? The surprising answer: an adversarial perturbation of just one pixel would do the trick – a kind of attack that you'd be unlikely to detect with the naked eye.
As explained in a , the researchers came up with the startling conclusion that a one-pixel attack worked on nearly three-quarters of standard training images.
Not only that, but the boffins didn't need to know anything about the inside of the DNN – as they put it, they only needed its “black box” output of probability labels to function.
The attack was based on a technique called “differential evolution” (DE), an optimisation method which in this case identified the best target for their attack (the paper tested attacks against one, three, and five pixels).
Naturally, more pixels makes the attack more effective: a three-pixel perturbation achieved a success rate of 82 per cent, and adjusting five pixels lifted that to 87.3 per cent.
Editing that one, carefully-chosen pixel meant “each natural image can be perturbed to 2.3 other classes on average”.
The best result was an image of a dog in the training set, which the trio managed to trick the DNN into classifying as all nine of the “target” classes – airplane, automobile, bird, cat, deer, frog, horse, ship and truck.

The sharp-eyed, looking at the test images, will note that the single-pixel attack was carried out against images of a mere 1,024 pixels. However, on something more substantial like a 280,000 pixel image (still not so large), only 273 pixels need to be perturbed and a human observer still might not notice the changes. (R)
