看过全书我有这样的理解，作者桐华在连载时，或者构思这部小说时，本来男主角应该是8爷，而4爷绝对是个酱油，这从原著第18章才正式有4爷和的对话可以看出，哪有主角这么迟才上脸啊。哪桐华为何后来改变注意变成4爷成一号男主了呢？估计是看到同类清穿选8爷当一号男主较多，如果仍以8爷为男主，那清穿作品大多就雷同了，桐华别出心裁或者说无可奈何选了4爷，这个也可以从桐华并不是很喜欢笔下的4爷可以看出（我记得她曾有段文字说过这个），所以我们这些读者才会发现两段感情衔接有点生硬，包括弃8爷（刚刚还在海誓山盟呢）之现实的不可思议，（个人感觉是作者从第38章开始考虑换男主了，前38章4爷的话加起来少的可怜），作者对笔下人物不喜爱，所以会有雍正改遗照夺位、蒸这样的事，不喜爱所以才让两人最终分离，最后见一面也不给。悲剧就这么形成了！可谓阴差阳错，成就一部不朽的清穿名著。

其实研究作者为什么这么写很有意思。

电视剧编剧估计也发现了这个问题，于是做了很多的修改，让与相识很早，两次街头相遇，1次挚友般的告诫，对白增加，戏份增加。我认为改的很合理，让人物感情衔接过度更自然。如按原著，估计得到15集才有的戏，那就太突兀了。
